10-Year-Old Clark Kent Shatters Phelps’ 100M Butterfly Record

10-Year-Old Clark Kent Shatters Phelps’ 100M Butterfly Record”

A United States boy has smashed a swimming record held by Olympic champion Michael Phelps for more than a decade, living up to his nickname of "Superman".

"It was the 100-meter butterfly, and I broke Michael Phelps record of 1:10:48, I won a time of 1:09:38", said Kent.

Apuada's time slashed off over a second from Phelps' record, which had gone unbroken even as the competitive swimmer went on to win numerous Olympic medals.

Clark Kent, the next Michael Phelps?

According to his coaching team, Clark already has his eye firmly set on the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris - when he will be just 16.

He also had an important message to share.

Filipino-Amercian swimmers Clark Kent Apuada and Nicole Oliva recently shone in separate tournaments, breaking long-standing records both in the United States and the Philippines.

He won a record-breaking 23rd gold meal after leading the U.S. to victory in the 400-meter medley relay at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio, 2016. "He's just, he's kind of a savant of sorts".

His father, Chris Apuada, added: 'He does piano lessons, he does martial arts, and at school if there's a computer class, coding, or STEM programs he's always joining'.

Not to get too far into the (nerdy) weeds here, but Arthur Curry Apuada perhaps would have been a more apt name.

"I deal with it really well, I just have to balance", he said.

Apuada, a rising fifth-grader who has been swimming competitively for four years, ended up with gold medals in every event he swam in at the meet, winning the 200 individual medley, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle to go along with his 100 butterfly crown.

"Dream big", he said, "and always focus on your dreams and have fun".

"This kid is unlike any other young man that I've ever coached", said Dia Riana, Clark's coach, via CNN.
