Parasite scare sparks recall for salads, wraps sold at Trader Joe's, Walgreens”

Do not consume the recalled products. It can cause intestinal distress that can last anywhere from a few days to a month or longer if not treated with antibiotics, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The products were produced between July 15 to 18 and have "Best By", "Enjoy by", "Best if Sold By" or "Sell By" dates ranging from July 18 through July 23, 2018.

At Deerfield-based Walgreens, the recalled products were sold "in a limited number of our stores in IL only", spokeswoman Allison Mack said in an email Wednesday. "39985 or P-39985".

They are being recalled amid fears of Cyclospora contamination from chopped romaine sold to Caito Foods from their lettuce supplier, Fresh Express. This time, the unfortunate honor has fallen on Walgreens, Kroger, and Trader Joe's, which have been forced to recall salads and wraps possibly contaminated with the cyclospora parasite.

The warning was issued out of an "abundance of caution", federal inspectors said in a news release, urging consumers not to eat the affected products, which should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

The infection can cause Cyclosporiasis.

The symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramping, nausea, weight loss, and fatigue.

Symptoms can develop more than a week after consuming contaminated food or water.

The distributor is working with the FSIS to remove the products from stores, according to the alert. "For Cyclospora infections, this could take up to six weeks".

Add wraps and salads to the list of foods recalled largely due to safety concerns.

Although the U.S. Department of Agriculture said no illnesses have been reported, it's possible that some people may have been infected and don't yet realize it.
