Woods-Mickelson match set for Thanksgiving

Woods-Mickelson match set for Thanksgiving”

Thursday on ESPN's "Get Up", host Mike Greenberg reported that the match will go down on Thanksgiving weekend at Shadow Creek Golf Course in - you guessed it - Las Vegas.

The event will be either Friday (Nov. 23) or Saturday (Nov. 24) of Thanksgiving weekend. It's unclear what the purse money would be, but it's been rumored $10 million could be up for grabs.

Golf.com reported last month that the two sides were in negotiations for a "winner-take-all" match in which Mickelson said, "It's a ridiculous amount of money".

The top two active earners on the PGA tour are competing in this week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational that began Thursday at Firestone.

There's still no word on what the actual amount of money will be, but it's still rumored to be $10 million.

When told of Mickelson's comments, Woods smiled and told reporters: "I'm definitely not against that".

The online bookmaker has Woods, a 14-time major champion, at $1.67 ahead of five-time major victor Mickelson ($2.10).

They stunned the world of golf by joining each other for a practice round at the Masters in April, and were paired for the first two rounds of the Players in May. "Now, I don't know if he wants a piece of me, but I just think it would be something that would be really fun for us to do, and I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round".

"We are still working on it", Woods said.

Both make up the U.S. Ryder Cup committee along with 2018 captain Jim Furyk; Woods is a vice captain for Furyk and in contention for one of the four at-large picks.
