The Facts of Life Star Charlotte Rae Dies at 92”

Charlotte Rae, best known for her role as the loveable Mrs Garrett on The Facts of Life, has passed away at the age of 92. She announced to People magazine in April 2017 that she had been diagnosed with bone cancer.

"She played "the Twitch" and other iconic comic television roles on the Phil Silver's Show and created the role of Sylvia Schnauzer on TV's classic, auto 54 Where Are You?"

In that series, she served as the house mother at a girls' boarding school.

In 2011, The Facts of Life cast reunited as part of the TV Land Awards, and Rae won the Pop Icon award, being honored by speeches from Facts co-stars Kim Fields and Nancy McKeon. Now I have to figure out if I want to go have treatment again or opt for life.

She began her career in radio and theater before branching out to television in the 1950s.

In addition to acting, Rae was an accomplished singer and dancer.

"I grew up watching Charlotte Rae teach us the facts of life", wrote one Twitter user. Before she left the show in 1986 due to health problems, she earned an Emmy nomination in 1982.

The Tony and Emmy nominated actress appeared on the popular 1980s sitcom The Facts of Life for almost 10 years, sharing her personal struggles with the writers for the show to keep things realistic. "I'm grateful for the life I've already had".

Rae's extensive screen credits also include appearances in Bananas, ER, Pretty Little Liars, Boy Meets World and most recently, Ricki and the Flash. Andy Strauss died in 1999, and she wrote her memoir The Facts of My Life, with Larry Strauss.

"She was my champion, a teacher, a proud example of the tenacity and perseverance needed to live as a creative, along with your talent and gifts. i love you char", Cohn, who played Natalie, posted on Instagram. "I have this decision to make".

She was married to composer John Strauss, with whom she had two sons.

She is survived by a sister, her son Larry, three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
