Astronomers Discover New Planet Not Orbiting Any Star”

It was first detected using a radio telescope, the National Science Foundation's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array. This finding is the first radio telescope finding of an object the mass of a planet found outside the Solar System. It also has a surface temperature of 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit, compared to minus 234 degrees Fahrenheit for Jupiter and 10,000 degrees Fahrenheit for the Sun.

It's thought that SIMP J01365663+0933473 is only 200 million years-old and is just 20 light-years away from Earth.

The planet is believed to have scorching surface temperatures of around 825C. It also has a magnetic field about 200 times as strong as our infamously spotted neighbor's, driving auroras much like our own, except with a lack of a sun, SIMP's auroras are likely caused by magnetic play with one of its own moons. Brown dwarves are hard objects to categorise they are too huge to be considered planets and not big enough to be considered stars. Originally detected in 2016, it was one of five brown dwarfs that astronomers studied using the VLA. Finding a solitary planet - called a "rogue" planet - is more hard, but researchers just managed to spot one using a radio telescope, and it's a real weirdo.

According to a recent study in The Astrophysical Journal, the rogue planet has a magnetic field nearly 4 million times stronger than Earth's and a mass 12.7 times the size of Jupiter. The first brown dwarf was discovered in 1995, although they were first theorized in the 1960s. Last year, an independent team of scientists discovered that it was actually part of a young group of stars and less massive. It's so big that it can barely be classified a planet - it's nearly a failed star.

Kao heard those results when she was looking at the newest data from the radio astronomy observatory, which helped the researchers determine the strong magnetic field. The mysterious auroras of the planet, or rather their radio signature, is what allowed the scientists to identify the planet, but for now it is still not known how these auroras are formed. The auroras are similar to those on Earth that happen when our magnetic field interacts with solar wind. "We think these mechanisms can work not only in brown dwarfs, but also in both gas giant and terrestrial planets", Kao said.

Astronomers have discovered a massive planet with a odd glow just outside the solar system, where it is just drifting without any kind of orbit.
