Parkland shooter bought AR-15 for $560 because it was 'cool-looking'

Parkland shooter bought AR-15 for $560 because it was 'cool-looking'”

The man alleged to have shot dead 17 people in the Parkland Florida school massacre had heard demons ordering him to "burn, kill, destroy", police transcripts released Monday showed.

However, metal detectors that students and parents were counting on will not have been installed.

A judge entered a not guilty plea on Cruz's behalf during the accused mass murderer's arraignment in March.

The new portion of the transcript was made available to the public on Monday by a Florida judge after several news organizations, including the New York Times, sued for their release under the state's public records law.

The suspect said that he sometimes used marijuana or Xanax to silence the voice.

The school district also chose to discontinue Cruz's behavior intervention plan because his "target behaviors were no longer in evidence and the plan was no longer needed".

Asked why he didn't go on a killing spree then, Cruz said: "I ..." "The voice is in here and then it's me, it's just regular me, just trying to be a good person".

Read the redacted version of what Cruz said during a videotaped interview below.

Cruz said that the voice was telling him to kill himself.

A recording featured Cruz reportedly muttering "kill me" to himself following his arrest, despite being alone in a room.

"Because I have someone in my head who I can talk to about it", Cruz said.

'At the end, you're nothing but worthless s**t, dude. "You're all going to die".

"I want to die".

Detective John Curcio of the Broward County Sheriff's Office had stepped out to get a glass of water for the suspect, though Cruz had said he did not "deserve it".

Nikolas Cruz, the 19-year-old accused of killing 17 students and teachers at a Florida high school, said he felt "worthless" and repeatedly indicated that he wanted to die, according to a newly-released transcript of what Cruz told police following the February 14 shooting. On the transcript, which is 217 pages long, Cruz said in the interview that he was hearing voices.

Cruz's public defender had asked the entire statement to be kept from the public, saying it could influence a jury's decision.

"Burn. Kill. Destroy", he replied.

Throughout the interrogation, Cruz references suffering from depression, isolation and loneliness and spinning further out of control upon the death of his mother from pneumonia.

"I hear demons. a voice, demon voice", he said, adding that the voice had told to hurt people on the night before the shooting. One voice he refers to as "the demon".

"I, personally, think you're using the demon as an excuse", the detective said.

If you are anxious about your or someone else's mental health, the best place to get help is your GP or local mental health provider. "This is ... don't even laugh at me", Zachary Cruz said.

"Kill me", he muttered to himself, finishing with a stream of despairing expletives.

The document is heavily redacted for statements that could be considered a confession in keeping with Florida law. Those who had hoped for them said they are upset that they won't have this additional security at school.
