Iran vows to continue oil exports despite Trump's threats

Iran vows to continue oil exports despite Trump's threats”

He doubled down on that sentiment Wednesday saying that before U.S. sanctions "nobody supported Iran".

On Monday, the foreign ministers of Germany, Britain and France issued a joint statement condemning the new United States sanctions on Iran.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump wrote on social media that "anyone doing business with Iran will NOT be doing business with the United States".

"These are the most biting sanctions ever imposed, and in November they ratchet up to yet another level".

Countries like Russia, China and Turkey, however, have said that they would not abide by the USA sanctions, and would continue to trade with Iran.

Turkey says it will continue to buy natural gas from Iran despite U.S. sanctions that were restored against the country on Tuesday.

Later, Mr Zarif responded on Twitter by writing: "Tantrums & CAPPED TWEETS won't change the fact that the world is sick & exhausted of USA unilateralism".

Signed in 2015, the landmark deal was meant to lift sanctions against Iran in return for curbs in its nuclear programme.

European countries, hoping to persuade Tehran to continue to respect the nuclear deal, have promised to try to lessen the blow of sanctions and to urge their firms not to pull out.

With natural gas accounting for almost 40 percent of Turkey's electricity production, Donmez said that Turkey would continue this trade, as "we can't possibly leave our citizens in [the] dark".

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was cited by an Iranian newspaper, as saying that a U.S. plan to stop Iranian oil exports will not succeed.

However, a senior USA official said it was "not particularly concerned" by the move because many major firms had already announced they were pulling out of Iran.

USA officials have said in recent weeks that they aim to reduce Iran's oil exports to zero as a means of pressuring Tehran to halt its nuclear and missile programmes and involvement in regional conflicts in Syria and Iraq.

But that has proven hard, and European companies have quit Iran, arguing that they can not risk their US business.

The report said the two discussed significant global issues and mutual interests, likely including both country's ongoing nuclear negotiations with the USA, and "welcomed further enhancement of relations", according to the state-owned Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

His visit to Iran is the first by a high-ranking DPRK delegation since August previous year, when President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly Kim Yong Nam and vice foreign minister Choe Hui Chol spent several days in the country.
