Kawhi thanks Pop, Spurs fans in farewell letter

Kawhi thanks Pop, Spurs fans in farewell letter”

Kawhi Leonard released his first statement since the blockbuster trade that saw the Toronto Raptors land the star forward.

On one side, there was [Kawhi Leonard] that was trying to get out, get to a bigger market, and they were totally being up front with him, and then they trade him for a guy [DeMar DeRozan] where, that organization wasn't being up front with him at all.

Leonard thanked Spurs coach Gregg Popovich and added: "I'll always be grateful for my growth under your guidance".

Though some are more heartfelt and less robotic, thank-you letters by traded players rarely say much significantly.

Outside of that, this is a pretty boilerplate "thank you" letter from the reserved forward as he starts his new chapter in Toronto.

Before saying one final thank you, Leonard says, "I'll always remember the city and the people of San Antonio".

"There is not a more passionate or dedicated fan base than what I've witnessed in San Antonio", he wrote.

"Through ups and downs - glad there were many more ups!"

"The best part about San Antonio, they do right by you", said Gay. "I'll never forget what we have shared and accomplished together", Leonard wrote. He appeared in nine games for the Spurs in 2017-18, last playing on January 13 before sitting out the rest of the season with a quad injury.

Leonard's opening statement is about as Leonard as it gets.

"It's going to be a very intriguing season, a very exciting season, and I'm just excited to be a part of the Spurs", Walker said.

The two-time Defensive Player of the Year alongside Danny Green, was shipped to Toronto in exchange for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a protected 2019 first-round pick.
