Pep Guardiola claims Premier League champions have no more money to spend

Pep Guardiola claims Premier League champions have no more money to spend”

"Or they are investing massively like Liverpool, who are buying everything and everybody", Mourinho told MUTV after his team's 1-0 friendly loss to Bayern Munich Sunday.

When asked if he was happy for City to be favourites, he said: "Since nine years I live with that situation, it's no problem".

Pre-season has clearly been a frustrating time for Mourinho, while a perceived lack of respect for leading his side to second spot last term has got under his skin.

"We won the triple and, since then, we are the favourites, so thank you - you are so kind!"

But Pep Guardiola has warned his players that maintaining last season's standards won't be enough to assure a repeat of last season's triumph.

Riyad Mahrez was City's only high profile acquisition but Guardiola is fine with that, and said: "We believe we have a good squad".

"I'm not confident, I'm not confident and the market closes today, so is time at least for me to stop thinking about the market because the market will be closed", Mourinho said.

"So I will have to focus on the players I have and in relation to this first couple of matches, maybe four matches because after Burnley there is national team and a couple of weeks to recover people and prepare people better, is to focus on players available so I'm not thinking about that list I give you, I focus on what we have".

"Another point, we don't have more money to spend - that is the truth". In football you need time to work and players on the pitch to work and we didn't have that until now.

"We could not spend more than we have done this season".

According to the Times, however, Federation Internationale de Football Association are "planning to introduce a standardised global transfer window", closing for each league the day before their season begins.

"Raheem and Kevin arrived in a ideal way", added the City boss.

"Unlike previous seasons, after 9 August, clubs can not make late player acquisitions either reacting to their early season performances, or immediately utilising proceeds arising from any late player sales to overseas clubs".
