Chad Kelly to replace Paxton Lynch as No. 2 quarterback for Broncos

Chad Kelly to replace Paxton Lynch as No. 2 quarterback for Broncos”

"Chad's played well", Joseph said.

There is a swashbuckling arrogance to his style.

Paxton Lynch has gone from the Broncos' future franchise quarterback to the team's third stringer. "Kelly!" he also drove Denver 85 yards in 11 plays, capping the drive with a 19-yard strike to running back Phillip Lindsay to put the Broncos on top 28-27 with 10 minutes remaining.

Siemian, who began his career with the Broncos, came on to hit on 11 of 17 passes with one interception.

"I'm coming out here to learn each and every day", Kelly said.

Chad Kelly will be the No. 2 quarterback when the Broncos face the Chicago Bears on Saturday night, coach Vance Joseph announced on Monday.

After a poor showing in Denver's first preseason game, fans booed Lynch off the field.

"Obviously disappointed, but he understands that it's a performance business", Joseph told reporters. "He has great potential - physical potential - but it's got to equal performance eventually".

"I'll be honest, I wanted one series with a few more plays and (to) score a touchdown". Chad has played well. He is a guy that plays with a lot of confidence. It's been that way since the spring. He had a great spring, he's had a great camp. "He's earned that right".

Case Keenum completed only 1 of 4 passes for the Broncos. But when it comes to picking quarterbacks?

"Just got to work hard, " Kelly said with a grin when asked if he's ready to be one play away on Sundays. Obviously, me being in my second year, I don't know anything. "And when your time's called, you better be ready to step up and go". Unfortunately, cutting Lynch would cost more than keeping him. At this point it would be a surprise if he is on the team's season-opening, 53-man roster. Plus, it's not like the Broncos - valued at $2.5 billion by Forbes - are short on cash. "You want guys to go out there and at least have a decent drive, but we didn't do that". "When bullets are flying, make sure you execute".
