Will we see Tiger in Australia?

Will we see Tiger in Australia?”

Brooks Koepka vaulted into first place in the standings with his third major title, and will be joined by Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson, Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and Webb Simpson at next month's event at Le Golf National in Paris.

It would be the second time he plays the Ryder Cup as a captain's pick. Furyk will choose three captain's picks next month after the second FedEx Cup playoff event, with the last pick September 10 after the third playoff.

As for the Ryder Cup, Furyk ended up with the same eight players who started the week atop the USA standings. That 18 months has flown by in some respects, and it feels like it has taken forever in others. "It was the first time Tiger has been in contention and I've been in contention at the same time, so the fans definitely let you know what he was doing". This eight is exciting for any captain, and I love having this group. It's my focus. For some reason the Majors get my attention.

"I'm not sure the numbers are always that important when I look down the list", Furyk said.

"He seems to rise to the occasion", said Furyk. "He's playing very well. Pandemonium is breaking out with Tiger Woods, then you look at Brooks Koepka, who was just totally unfazed, wasn't going to be rattled". "They were loud and they stayed around and.it's been incredible with the positiveness that everyone was saying and they wanted to see some good golf and we produced some".

"I realize Tiger Woods is a story, I realize he's playing very well and I'm excited to see that". However, the most important figure may well be Woods.

"Tiger's been a vice-captain in the team room as a player - he serves that role in either direction", added Furyk.

Furyk said there is no defined number of players vying for the captain's picks and that the door is open for players now not on the radar to put themselves in position during the FedExCup Playoffs, which begin with next week's The Northern Trust in Paramus, N.J.

"I'd say the door's open in a lot of respects", Furyk said.

The owners of the championship can choose to be happy with their lot as the fourth of four, or they could be bold and, say, every Olympic year take it outside of the United States and use the status of the championship to "grow the game" around the world.

Furyk needs four from Bryson DeChambeau, Xander Schauffele, Matt Kuchar, Kevin Kisner, Mickelson and Woods.

Tiger Woods finished second at the PGA Championship. Both played the first two rounds of the PGA with Furyk, and rallied to make the cut after poor starts. "But we're trying to identify the four players that fit with these eight", Furyk said. "I mean, I could snap a club in two seconds and not think anything of it".

He's the hottest golfer on the planet, though you might struggle to recognize him.

"This is the greatest comeback in golf".

The double Masters champion has a poor record in the Ryder Cup and was overlooked for a wild card in 2016, despite being ranked seventh in the world at the time.

As it stands, Italy's Francesco Molinari, victor of The Open, now tops the Team Europe Ryder Cup points list, followed by English trio Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton and Tommy Fleetwood.

Though he closes 2018 still without a major title since the 2008 U.S. Open, it's hard, after a performance like this, to think the drought can last forever.
