Djokovic and Dimitrov survive but Zverev loses in Cincinnati

Djokovic and Dimitrov survive but Zverev loses in Cincinnati”

Goals from midfielders Saul Niguez and Koke in extra time implied that Atletico, the Europa League winners, won the match 4-2, defeating the Champions League winners, who began their new campaign without Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. There, Djokovic served both break points he faced and Mannarino stood no chance in his games, losing the ground completely and giving his serve away in games two and four to send Novak over the finish line.

"I wasn't feeling great for a set and a half, I had some stomach issues", Djokovic said in his on-court interview afterwards.

Defending champion Grigor Dimitrov beat Mischa Zverev 7-6 (5), 7-5, extending his recent success in Cincinnati.

Djokovic is trying to become the first man to win all nine ATP Masters 1000 trophies.

'I really want to win this tournament, and I have been trying. "I definitely need to play better than I have in the first couple of matches".

Marin Cilic was pushed hard by Romanian qualifier Marius Copil before progressing 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-4.

Zverev came into the event leading the ATP with 43 match wins this season, while it was a seventh career win over a top 10 player for Dutchman Haase. He won his first Masters title at the Western & Southern last year without dropping a set, and he's won all four sets this year.

After being given medication at the change of ends, Djokovic looked more like himself in the humidity as he took the second set and then won five consecutive games at the start of the decider.

"It was a very ugly match, but I'm happy that I fought, even if the level wasn't very high", said Muguruza.

Earlier on Wednesday, American world number three and 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens set up a third-round meeting with Elise Mertens by beating Germany's Tatjana Maria 6-3 6-2.

And when Djokovic got back to business he lost only one game to claim the final two sets 6-2, 6-1.

Dimitrov opened his title defence by prevailing against Mischa Zverev, whose younger brother and third seed Alexander suffered a shock second-round defeat midweek.

Former world number one Novak Djokovic and reigning Cincinnati Masters champion Grigor Dimitrov advanced, while Alexander Zverev was bundled out.
