Fitbit announces Charge 3 fitness tracker, coming this October for $150

Fitbit announces Charge 3 fitness tracker, coming this October for $150”

The Charge 3 is an evolution of the Charge 2 that came out before it, and while it has the same general form factor as its predecessor, Fitbit spent a lot of time making sure that the Charge 3 is a more comfortable and stylish tracker.

Fitbit isn't giving up on fitness trackers just yet. It's also waterproof to 50m and has swim tracking built in too, so it can be the single wearable you use for most of your workouts. You can also send quick replies from notifications on Android phones and there's the ability to track your sleep and hydration levels directly from your wrist, so no more fumbling with the Fitbit app.

In addition to a flood of cheap fitness trackers from Asian manufacturers, Fitbit faces a new Samsung smartwatch introduced two weeks ago and an expected fourth-generation update to Apple's (aapl) Apple Watch.

A rundown of what users can expect from the new device makes it sound like it's straddling the line between a fitness tracker and smartwatch, which can't help but be a good thing. Fitbit has also brought Fitbit Pay over to the Charge 3, and unlike with the Versa, it's available on both the regular and special-edition models of the Charge 3.

Fitbit's Charge family is the most popular of Fitbit's product line-up, with 35 million devices sold to date.

To complement the elevated hardware, the interactive software experience was redesigned to more deeply engage and motivate users to reach their goals each day. But also because the hardcore runners that want Global Positioning System on-board are going to get the Ionic instead. Apart from tracking heart rate, calories burnt, and sleep, the Fitbit Charge 3 can also comes with female health tracking.

The Fitbit Charge 3 is going up for pre-sale today on Fitbit.com, and will open up for pre-orders with select retailers tomorrow for $149.

How much does the Fitbit Charge 3 cost?

"Notably, it" is the first in the Charge lineup to have a touchscreen. There's plenty of upgrades here on the Charge 3, including water resistance for up to 50 meters, allowing you to track your swimming. Fitbit also claims the Gorilla Glass display is almost 40 per cent larger and brighter than that found on its predecessor, and now offers support for grayscale colours.

Check out our hands-on review of the Fitbit Charge 3 here. It comes with premium swimproof design and is priced at Rs. 14999. The tracker comes in all-black or rose-gold-and-navy models.

Market research firm IDC noted in June that Fitbit had a hard first quarter and that its market share dropped to 8.7% compared to 12.2% past year.
