The Aftermath of the Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen News

The Aftermath of the Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen News”

On Thursday morning, Trump remained defiant in an interview on Fox News's "Fox & Friends", criticizing Cohen's plea deal and complaining that Republicans are targeted too often by federal prosecutors.

Two people familiar with the President's thinking say this is classic Trump, because he does not tend to be as confrontational in person, despite his self-described penchant for fighting back. "I don't think any president has ever done what I've done in this short (term), we haven't even been two years, biggest tax cuts in history.", Trump said.

Mr Trump was responding to a question on his mounting legal woes after his former lawyer Michael Cohen said under oath that Mr Trump had instructed him to commit a felony by breaking United States campaign finance laws, AFP reported.

"This is Michael fulfilling his promise made on July 2nd to put his family and country first and tell the truth about Donald Trump", Davis told ABC News, referring to comments Cohen made in an interview with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos.

Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts, including two counts of campaign finance violations, in federal court in Manhattan on Tuesday. "He simply says the markets will tank if I'm out of here, because I've done a good job. He took the job and then he said, 'I'm going to recuse myself.' I said, 'What kind of a man is this?'" "If the President was forced from office for reasons that, in today's world, were seen as nearly cliché and politically motivated to boot, the impact on the social fabric might wind up being far harder to mend than a market correction", Trennert wrote.

Republican lawmakers taking cues from their leaders about how to address the conviction and guilty plea of two former top aides to President Donald Trump so far have two strategies to choose from: silence or avoidance.

Earlier in the week, President Trump ripped Cohen on social media.

In interviews this week, Davis has stirred Washington with claims that Cohen has information of interest to special counsel Robert Mueller's collusion probe. Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted at least seven times at a briefing that Trump had done nothing wrong and was not the subject of criminal charges.

He was speaking after Michael Cohen, his ex-lawyer, pleaded guilty to violating election laws and said he had been directed to do so by Mr Trump.

Incensed over the deal Mr Cohen has made, Mr Trump said it might be better if "flipping" was illegal because people "just make up lies". Cohen's assertion that Trump ordered the payments is seen as creating legal and political jeopardy for the president.

Trump's national security adviser was pressed by a reporter during a news conference Thursday in Geneva about whether he was concerned that Trump posed a security risk. Such respect for a fearless man!

Davis then replied that the senators failed to ask the right follow-ups to Cohen's prepared statement - about Trump's "level of awareness" of the hacking, seeming to draw a distinction between awareness and "involvement".

With that type of threat hanging over his head, the President has not enjoyed any respite from this overzealous Special Counsel and his team of partisan Democratic Party attorneys.
