Bolton to ICC Judges: Go After US, and You'll Pay”

United States National Security Adviser John Bolton on Monday warned the International Criminal Court against prosecuting its officials for alleged war crimes in Afghanistan, Reuters reported.

Trump's National Security Advisor John Bolton said Monday the "extraordinarily ambitious" plan is still being revised and the administration is seeking an ideal time to reveal it.

Last November, ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda requested permission to open a formal investigation into allegations of war crimes committed since 2002 by, among others, American military and Central Intelligence Agency personnel in Afghanistan and at secret detention facilities set up in Poland, Lithuania and Romania. "We will ban its financial system and we will prosecute them in the United States criminal system", Bolton said. He promised to "take notes" of the countries cooperating with the ICC, warning that such behavior will affect their relations with the U.S. and might result in slashing the USA aid to such nations. We will not join the ICC. He added that the same punishments apply to "any company or state that assists in an ICC investigation of Americans".

Professor McCormack says such measures could jeopardise the ability of U.S. citizens to work with the ICC, though he questioned whether existing United States laws would enable such prosecutions.

It also says the United States may seek more bilateral agreements that would prohibit individual nations from surrendering Americans to the ICC.

The Palestinians found few friends in the Trump administration, and "such irresponsible moves are clear proof of American collusion with Israel's occupation", said PLO Executive Committee member Hanan Ashrawi.

Bolton noted that the USA government never signed the treaty creating the court and does not recognize it.

National Security Adviser John Bolton called the court "illegitimate" and vowed the United States would do everything "to protect our citizens".

Bolton went on to proclaim that the USA will not cooperate with the ICC, even financially.

The Trump administration ordered a Palestinian representative office to close today, ending the near 25-year diplomatic presence of the PLO Mission in Washington DC. They described the planned PLO mission closure as the latest pressure tactic by a Trump administration that has slashed funding to a United Nations agency for Palestinian refugees and to hospitals in East Jerusalem, which Palestinians want as capital of a future state.

According to a draft of the speech seen by Reuters, the Neo-Con ideologue is expected to warn the ICC that the USA will fight back using any means necessary if the ICC ever dares to probe an American or Israeli, and will punish those who cooperates with war-crime investigations.

The Trump administration said it took the decision because Palestinian leaders were allegedly refusing to take part in talks with Israel.

America's long-running reluctant relationship with the International Criminal Court came to a crashing halt as decades of USA suspicions about the tribunal and its global jurisdiction spilled into open hostility, amid threats of sanctions if it investigates US troops in Afghanistan.

Most recently his administration ended US funding for the United Nations agency that helps Palestinian refugees, slashing hundreds of millions of dollars in aid for projects in the West Bank and Gaza and cutting funding to hospitals in Jerusalem that serve Palestinians. The Associated Press reports that a requirement in us law states that the PLO mission must close if the peace process does not move forward.

She also cited a move by the Palestinians to have Israeli officials prosecuted at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which the State Department says violates official conditions for the mission's existence.
