Hugo Lloris fined £50,000 after drink-driving admission - Premier League 2018

Hugo Lloris fined £50,000 after drink-driving admission - Premier League 2018”

Lloris was charged with a single count of drink driving and appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

The Daily Mail tabloid said Lloris registered 100 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in a police check.

Henry Fitch, prosecuting, said that police in an unmarked auto spotted Lloris' vehicle driving at 15mph in a 30mph zone and veering "towards..." They found vomit in the auto after stopping him.

David Sonn, defending, said the incident represented a "spectacular fall from grace" for the World Cup victor, who was not part of the Spurs squad for the loss at Watford earlier this month.

"I wish to apologise wholeheartedly to my family, the club, my teammates, the manager and all of the supporters", Lloris had earlier said in a statement. Police officers found vomit in the auto. He had initially booked a taxi but it cancelled, prompting Lloris to drive - something described by Mr Sonn as "the first of a number of unwise decisions".

Lloris now faces the prospect of a lengthy ban and a significant fine based on his earnings at Tottenham.

"On July 15 he was arguably the proudest man on the planet (having captained France to the World Cup victory)", he said.

"Forty days later, he was arrested in central London", said the lawer.

He said a taxi which had booked cancelled so Lloris made "the first of a number of unwise decisions" and chose to drive home.

Lloris missed Tottenham's 2-1 defeat to Watford with the injury, as well as France's recent worldwide games against Germany and the Netherlands and he says he's not sure if he'll be fit for the match at Wembley at lunchtime on Saturday. Spurs are now fifth in the Premier League table.

She said: "This is a very serious offence, as you know".

Lloris, of East Finchley, north London, signed for Spurs from Lyon in 2012, making 209 appearances in the Premier League and keeping 75 clean sheets.
