Hugo Lloris still Tottenham Hotspur captain despite drink drive conviction: Mauricio Pochettino

Hugo Lloris still Tottenham Hotspur captain despite drink drive conviction: Mauricio Pochettino”

The International break has been too long but we are finally about to see the light at the end of the tunnel with Spurs taking on Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday lunchtime in a potential slobberknocker.

The 31-year-old missed Spurs' Premier League game at Watford on 2 September and both of France's matches during the worldwide break.

France's World Cup-winning captain Lloris is "expected to be out for several weeks" with a thigh injury according to the club, while manager Mauricio Pochettino is more hopeful Alli could return in time for the trip to Brighton on September 22.

The Argentine boss confirmed Lloris would continue in the captain's role and again insisted the goalkeeper regrets the incident after he was banned from driving for 20 months on Wednesday and fined £50k.

'Of course he doesn't feel great.

The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham are hopeful that the stopper will regain his place from Michel Vorm for Liverpool's visit to Wembley on Saturday as Pochettino's men look to end the Reds' own flawless start to the campaign.

The Premier League club said any disciplinary action they might take would remain an internal matter.

"We are disappointed because we're going to miss him for this game and possibly Inter Milan in the Champions League, but it is not a big issue". He is punishing himself.

Alli suffered a slight muscle strain in England's Nations League defeat to Spain last weekend.

Despite these two high profile absences, Spurs will still harbour hopes of ending Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season, with their 4-1 dismantling of the Reds in the same fixture last season providing ample confidence.
