Jose Mourinho doesn't trust Marcus Rashford at Man Utd, says Phil Thompson

Jose Mourinho doesn't trust Marcus Rashford at Man Utd, says Phil Thompson”

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is reportedly determined to stay and fight for his place at the club despite a lack of first-team football so far this season.

Rashford is again struggling for game time at Old Trafford this season, but Southgate says his performances for England this week will boost his confidence when he returns to club duty under Jose Mourinho.

There have been questions about whether Mourinho fully trusts the young striker, but England boss Southgate has insisted that the young forward has the full support of his club manager.

"One of the biggest concerns is playing time for English players - that is shown by a number of the squad who came with us in Russian Federation not getting opportunities", Southgate said in a press conference last month. "For me, I was delighted because we really wanted to make him feel important over this period anyway".

"It's not my business to interfere with club managers, they have a hard job to do and they have big squads at the top six, huge competition for places, so Jose thinks the world of Marcus".

"For me, it's the biggest club in the world, and I think he's got the potential to be one of the best". He had left [Riyad] Mahrez out of the team, so he needed to get him on because he [Mahrez] is still adapting to the way of playing.

And Rashford has been told that he must leave United in order to be considered as a first-choice striker for England.

Rashford scored the winning goal for England against Switzerland on Tuesday, making it three home internationals in row with a goal for the youngster.

"It's not that the talent isn't there - we have shown with the under-17 world champions, under-20 world champions and at the senior World Cup, there are good English players there". "More of a concern is the young players who might be coming through to challenge that are not getting an opportunity to play".
