Pochettino confirms Lloris will remain Spurs captain after drink-drive sentence

Pochettino confirms Lloris will remain Spurs captain after drink-drive sentence”

Lloris admitted being more than twice above the drink-drive limit of 35 micrograms when he was stopped by police in central London last month.

Pochettino has refused to divulge whether, in addition to the £50,000 fine and 20-month driving ban that Lloris received in court, he has also been fined by Tottenham.

Asked whether Lloris, who was found to be twice the legal limit and had a passenger in the vehicle, would remain captain, Pochettino said: "Of course". "And of course now it is a massive lesson..." All that happened (in court) is not good and he does not feel great.

The World Cup-winning goalkeeper has been ruled out with a thigh injury, which he sustained against Manchester United in August.

"Of course, any woman, man, person can make a mistake".

His teammate, Dele Alli, has also been ruled out of the Liverpool game after picking up a hamstring injury while on global duty with England. He said "Gaffer, I made a mistake".

Pochettino confirmed that Lloris would remain captain despite his drunk-driving case, replying "of course" when asked whether that would be the situation.

"Different clubs didn't allow him to go and play in this tournament", Pochettino said, before joking: "Who took the risk? Now, because he is clever, he learns and he is going to move on". We need to try (to see) he understands he made a mistake.

Mauricio Pochettino pointed the finger at his players after Tottenham's loss at Watford, but the FC crew agree he should be pointing at himself.

Lloris' is expected to be out for several weeks whilst Alli's injury is less severe and although unlikely he could yet return for Tottenham's Champions League match against Inter next week.

"I'm not disappointed with him", he said.
