Vikings waive Carlson after three-miss day, sign Bailey

Vikings waive Carlson after three-miss day, sign Bailey”

The Vikings went ahead on Monday and chose to part ways with Daniel Carlson after the rookie kicker missed all three of his field goal attempts during Sunday's matchup with the Green Bay Packers, including two in overtime.

They didn't immediately announce a replacement for Carlson, but Dan Bailey, the second-most accurate field goal kicker in National Football League history and a free agent after being released by the Dallas Cowboys two weeks ago, will reportedly sign with the Vikings.

Bailey, 30, was released by the Cowboys on September 1 in a move that saved Dallas a few million dollars by keeping a Canadian Football League journeyman, Brett Maher, over him.

According to ESPN, Bailey had turned down four other offers since the start of the season before settling on the Vikings. The Cleveland Browns have already made their switch, and didn't sign Bailey. During his presser on Monday, Zimmer said that Minnesota is going to bring in Bailey for a physical this week and take it from there.

A fifth-round pick out of Auburn, Carlson missed all three of his field goal tries, including two in overtime.

"It's disappointing when you've got an opportunity to win the football game there at the end and you come up with a tie". "That last one was probably more just confidence after missing twice (earlier)".
