Brett Kavanaugh’s Accuser to Testify at Hearing, Date To Be Set

Brett Kavanaugh’s Accuser to Testify at Hearing, Date To Be Set”

The woman accusing Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault has agreed to testify against him next week. Kavanaugh immediately and unequivocally denied Ford's charge that, while intoxicated, he pushed her into a bedroom, pinned her to a bed, and attempted to rip off her clothing. "I will listen if she does".

It said she had considered leaving the United States when it became clear Kavanaugh would be Trump's pick for supreme court justice. "I want to hear your testimony", Grassley wrote.

In backing away from deadlines and demands, Grassley underscored the sensitivity with which Senate Republicans have tried handling Ford.

The agreement is in the works for California professor Christine Blasey Ford to possibly testify, but details have yet to be finalised, the reports said. Of course, he also referred to Kavanaugh as "somebody very special" who "never even had a little blemish on his record".

The newspaper reported that Whelan "has been involved in helping to advise Kavanaugh's confirmation effort and is close friends with both Kavanaugh and Leonard Leo, the head of the Federalist Society who has been helping to spearhead the nomination".

Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, acknowledged that lawmakers will "probably not" be able to know the truth of Christine Blasey Ford's decades-old allegation that Kavanaugh assaulted her at a house party when they were teenagers.

In an email to judiciary committee staff, Ford's lawyer Debra Katz called the deadline "aggressive and artificial".

He passed on multiple questions, labelling them "too personal", but a senior White House official claimed he had struck the right note, suggesting his appearance will be carefully orchestrated to present a likable, clean version of himself.

While Kavanaugh is eager to testify and clear his name, an associate told the Post he is becoming "incredibly frustrated" by continued stories about his family.

Grassley turned down Ford's request that only senators, not attorneys, be allowed to ask questions.

Judge Kavanaugh has remained mostly silent. The committee's 11 Republicans - all men - have been seeking an outside female attorney to interrogate Ford, mindful of the election-season impression that could be left by men trying to pick apart a woman's assertion of a sexual attack. She has said that Ford feels rushed and is busy meeting with Federal Bureau of Investigation agents over death threats.

The third, Patrick J Smyth, issued a statement on Wednesday denying any knowledge of the party, and going on to praise Kavanaugh as a "person of great integrity". He expressed confidence that Senate Republicans would "manage this confirmation properly with the utmost respect for all concerned".

In addition to Kavanaugh, Ford claimed that three other teens were at the party that occurred circa 1982, although she is not sure of the year or location. "So I thought that the president's tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong". Republican Sen. Susan Collins of ME, who hasn't declared support for Kavanaugh, called the remark "appalling".

Ms Ford's lawyers previously said she had "been the target of vicious harassment" in the wake of her claims and was forced to leave her home.

Grassley rebuffed other Ford requests, including calling additional witnesses.
