In TV interview, Kavanaugh denies sexually assaulting anyone”

"The offices of at least four Democratic senators have received information about the allegation, and at least two have begun investigating it..."

Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell say they are determined to get Kavanaugh on the court, calling the allegations against him false and politically motivated.

Brett Kavanaugh, with his wife Ashley Estes Kavanaugh, answers questions during a FOX News interview, September 24, 2018, in Washington, about allegations of sexual misconduct against the Supreme Court nominee.

Just hours later, The New Yorker dropped a new bombshell, reporting that a second woman was accusing the Washington appeals court judge of sexual misconduct, while they were students at Yale University around 1983-84.

Kavanaugh and his first accuser, Christine Blasey Ford, are scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

TRT World's Mary McCarthy has more from Los Angeles.

Ramirez told the magazine she was on the floor, drunk at a Yale party when the alleged incident took place.

"What I know is the truth, and the truth is I've never sexually assaulted anyone", Kavanaugh told Fox News' Martha MacCallum in an exclusive interview on Monday. "Leader McConnell owes an apology to Dr. Ford for labeling her allegations a 'smear job.' And he should apologize to her immediately". Jeff Flake, a Republican on the committee, has expressed concerns over the sexual assault allegations.

"There's a chance that this could be one of the single most unfair, unjust things to happen to a candidate but I am with Judge Kavanaugh", Trump said in NY.

"I want a fair process where I can defend my integrity, and I know I'm telling the truth", the judge added.

Mr Trump is suggesting the timing of the New Yorker article is further evidence of what he has been saying privately for days: that the Democrats and media are conspiring to undermine his pick.

Despite the forceful rhetoric and solid Kavanaugh support by most Republicans, his backing from several GOP senators was unclear, including Sens.

"I just don't think one man's shoulders should bear decades of the #metoo movement", she said, using the popular name for the wave of women who have shared stories of being victims of sexual assault and misconduct, particularly in the workplace.

Ford accused Kavanaugh of covering her mouth and trying to remove her clothing at a party in the early 1980s, when both were in high school.

"Mitch McConnell, the Senate Republican leader, just chose to lecture Democrats for their actions involving a Supreme Court nominee", said Baldwin.

"I remember hearing and being mortified that this was out there", she said. Kavanaugh allegedly exposed himself to her at a dorm party. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, a California psychology professor, says he assaulted her years ago at a suburban Maryland high school party.

Democrats say that is all the more reason to halt the nomination process and let the FBI, which carries out background investigations for candidates to high positions, investigate them. "For the good of the court and the good of the country, Judge Kavanaugh must withdraw his nomination".

Bromwich said that Grassley's staff had not responded "to a number of outstanding questions about the hearing", including what the role will be for the "experienced sex crimes prosecutor" during the hearing. The counsel said it was the committee's "non-negotiable" right to determine who would be allowed to testify.

McConnell said the Senate would vote soon on confirmation of the 53-year old appellate court judge.
