Vikings Concerned About Everson Griffen Following Hotel Incident

Vikings Concerned About Everson Griffen Following Hotel Incident”

The police report also said Griffen went to the home of cornerback Trae Waynes Saturday night. A source confirmed to the ABC affiliate that the person under suspicion was Griffen, but the player was not at the hotel when police arrived.

After the Vikings requested a welfare check by Minnetrista police Saturday, Griffen was taken to a hospital and placed on a health and welfare hold, the end of a long day that started with Griffen being turned away from practice. "I just hope for the best for him".

According to the a report filed by Minnetrista police Sgt. Michael Kokesh, Vikings development director Les Pico told him that Griffen had been "struggling for weeks" and had been "explosive, screaming and yelling at the workplace". The man drove Griffen home, then directed police to his house because "Everson was acting insane and he was risky", according to a report filed Saturday by Minnetrista police officer Justin Thompson. "And, you know, we know he strong, he going to push through it, and we just want him to know we got his back".

The Star-Tribune reports that Griffen's wife said her husband "awoke in the middle of the night on September 16 and left the home" and that Griffen does that "at times when he is fighting "demons" in his head".

"To clarify, there was no attempted break-in at our home and at no point did my family or I feel unsafe", Waynes said.

No weapon was found and Griffen was allowed to leave the property, per police. "We are friends with the Griffen family and we are here to support them in any way possible during these trying times".

The police incident report notes that no criminal charges are forthcoming.

As he was being transported by ambulance, however, paramedics reported that Griffen jumped out of the vehicle "because he was in fear that someone was going to shoot him".

Minnesota Vikings star defensive end Everson Griffen is being treated at a mental health facility due to erratic behavior that reportedly caused his wife to call the police because she was extremely concerned.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Griffen registered a half-sack in each of the Vikings' first two games.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman said the team was "currently focused on Everson's well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family". and head coach Mike Zimmer added "it's about him getting better".

"Yeah, the only thing we're really concerned about for Everson isn't really anything to do with football", Zimmer said Tuesday.

When asked if Griffen's absence and the concern of teammates had anything to do with Sunday's blowout at the hands of Buffalo, Zimmer was quick with an answer. Griffen registered a half-sack in each of Minnesota's first two games to bring his career total to 62, which is 17th among active National Football League players.
