Vikings DE Everson Griffen reportedly involved in incident at Minneapolis hotel”

Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen reportedly threatened to shoot up a hotel and then broke into a teammate's home during the weekend, a pair of incidents that led to his brief detention and a hospital evaluation. Police audio indicated that the man said he would shoot someone if he wasn't let into his room.

A summary of the call from Minneapolis emergency communications center says hotel staff called to report a guest was causing a disturbance, was laying in the lobby and had threatened to assault hotel staff and was possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The Minneapolis Police Department report detailed the incident, with the name of the person making the threat redacted. An MPD spokesman said that no gun was seen at the time or subsequently discovered; Griffen left of his own accord. "We are certainly focused on Everson's well-being and providing the appropriate support for him and his family".

Griffen was ruled out on the pregame injury report against Buffalo on Sunday because of what was listed as knee trouble. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Monday, per sources, that Griffen "has been dealing for weeks with a serious, personal health-related issue".

Vikings general manager Rick Spielman released a statement on Monday expressing concern for Griffen's well-being. Griffen registered a half-sack in each of Minnesota's first two games to bring his career total to 62, which is 17th among active National Football League players.

Griffen, 30, has played all nine of his seasons with the Vikings, compiling 62 sacks. He signed a $58 million, four-year contract extension in 2017 and had been named to the Pro Bowl each of the last three years. He's recorded one sack this season.
