Sony tipped in plan to add PSN name change option for users”

The documentation was said to be a guide for changing one's PlayStation Network username. Kotaku reports that multiple anonymous developers of multiplayer PlayStation games have informed the site that the ability for PlayStation Network users to change their usernames is coming soon.

The PlayStation Network has lacked an option for changing usernames ever since its 2006 launch, and users have been asking for the feature to be implemented pretty much ever since.

According to the outlet, "in recent months they've been fixing bugs, tweaking settings, and ensuring that their games are compatible with Sony's plans". These complications are reportedly tied to the current way that PSN names are used to identify users within online games.

So far as that goes, Sony has not released an official comment regarding this rumored upcoming feature or said what, exactly, developers must do in order to prepare for these changes. However, we imagine it will be implemented before the impending end of the PS4.

If you created your PlayStation Network ID way back then, and used some sort of amusing, inane username like xXx_360NoSCopeZ_xXx and wanted to change it, it looks like it's finally coming true! Sony hasn't allowed users to change their names, though, meaning people in their 20s and 30s are now stuck with dumb names they don't particularly like sharing with others.

Sony have previously said they are aware many people would like the feature but it was technically very hard to implement.
