Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry announces retirement from football

Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry announces retirement from football”

According to reports in the United Kingdom media, Terry may now pick up a managerial role at Aston Villa.

He impressed at the Championship heavyweights last season but didn't agree fresh terms.

The search officially began last Wednesday, when Steve Bruce was dismissed.

Henry was tipped to take over in the summer after Villa received a massive cash injection.

Reacting to reports that Henry and Terry are set to take charge of Villa, Keown said on BT Sport: "I can safely say that I never ever saw those two as a partnership".

"You've got Frank Lampard there now and Bielsa".

Now on the Belgium national team coaching staff, Henry could take his first steps into management with Villa, but there has been a fascinating twist today. "If they get it right it seems very exciting".

Fulham supporters will nevertheless point out Villa did end up going a man up, when Denis Odoi was sent off with 20 minutes to go, but the club could not bag an equaliser.

Terry called time on his playing career by releasing a statement on his Instagram page, thanking his family, former teammates and staff he worked with during his 23-years in the game.

"That is exactly what I did".

"For sure he'll go into coaching and management and John is one of those people I think, and there are so many variables, will make it work because that's the type of person he is professionally". Was I convinced that was the right job for him?

"But I would have a problem with him managing my club, which is still one of England's biggest".

"To me, you are the best fans in the world".

Terry constantly attracted the strong backing of Chelsea fans who have a banner at Stamford Bridge which reads, "Captain".

"We don't know how they will do but they will inspire a dressing room".
