'Prove' Jamal Khashoggi walked out of consulate - Erdogan asks Riyadh”

DailyMail.com said a friend of the journalist revealed that Mr Khashoggi's encrypted messages had been read after he vanished.

The interview briefly touched on the Khashoggi case, with the crown prince stating he had no knowledge of the journalist's fate or whereabouts and that he had left the Istanbul consulate. He had been living since a year ago in the United States, in self-imposed exile, in part due to the rise of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has shown little tolerance for criticism. The consulate has other entrances and exits as well, and Saudi officials insist he left through one of them. Turkish officials have accused the Saudis of imprisoning or murdering him because he criticized Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and his policies related to Qatar, Iran, and political Islam.

"The Saudi consulate officials in Istanbul can't get away with [simply] saying 'he left the building.' The claimants are obligated to prove their claims".

"I don't like hearing about it, and hopefully that will sort itself out".

Turkey's government hasn't provided evidence after a spate of anonymous allegations that the Saudi writer was killed inside the Istanbul consulate.

CCTV footage showed Khashoggi entering the consulate - but there is no public evidence that he either left or was kidnapped or killed. Erdogan's response is likely to become more pointed in the coming days if there is no movement on issues that matter more to him than the disappearance of a foreign national inside Turkey.

The unnamed woman, who is a Turkish citizen, called police when Khashoggi did not emerge at 5 p.m., after the consulate had officially closed. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., tweeted Sunday that if "deeply disturbing" reports of Khashoggi's murder were confirmed, "The United States and the civilized world must respond strongly, and I will review all options in Senate".

The official described a quick and complex operation in which Khashoggi was killed within two hours of his arrival at the consulate by a team of Saudi agents, who dismembered his body with a bone saw they brought for the objective.

"Saudi authorities said they were open to cooperation and that a search can be conducted at the consulate building", the Turkish foreign ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said in a statement.

Istanbul prosecutors are investigating the incident, while the consulate said on Twitter that it was working in coordination with Turkish authorities.

The official said that a security delegation consisting of Saudi investigators arrived in Istanbul on Saturday to participate in the investigations into the disappearance of Khashoggi. The fact that Khashoggi is a columnist for the Washington Post, which Trump consistently attacks, may have made it even less likely that Trump would make it clear he was concerned about the disappearance.

United Nations spokeswoman Ravina Shamdasani said the "apparent enforced disappearance" of Khashoggi is a matter of "deep concern" to the human rights office in a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday.

Last year, Khashoggi left Saudi Arabia in fear of retribution, and he's been living in self-imposed exile in the U.S.

Friends of Khashoggi had planned on Tuesday to hold a funeral prayer for him, which had been expected to turn into a demonstration against Saudi Arabia. "If this is true - that the Saudis lured a USA resident into their consulate and murdered him - it should represent a fundamental break in our relationship with Saudi Arabia", said Sen.
