Virgin will reach space in 'weeks, not months', says founder Branson”

According to Sir Richard Branson, founder of the space tourism company Virgin Galactic, their latest spaceplane, SpaceShipTwo, will be in space in a matter of weeks.

"And then we will be in space with myself in months and not years", he continued.

In Singapore, billionaire and founder of Virgin, said that the company is close to launching its first mission into space, he hopes to briefly leave the Ground - and not even in the coming years and months, writes naked-science.

Branson said part of the reason why he himself had such an "enjoyable life and a long life" is due to him finding "wonderful people" to run his companies, only getting involved with the key issues.

Richard Branson has warned space race rival Elon Musk that he must "learn the art of delegation" and "get some sleep" if he is to avoid further controversy.

The 68-year-old, who is also chairman of Virgin Galactic, remains convinced that the billions of dollars that have been pumped into the research, development and testing of the spaceships is a sound investment. The original expected launch date was April 2018.

Branson has been working out and going through astronaut training and centrifuge training in recent months to prepare for making the journey himself. His training includes extensive tennis and cycling.

He reached an agreement with United States regulators last month to step down as Tesla chair and pay a $20 million (£15 million) fine for what the Securities and Exchange Commission called "false and misleading" claims.

Virgin's commercial space flight venture was founded in 2004 and has been competing with Elon Musk's SpaceX and Amazon to send the first paying passengers to the stars.

We'll believe it once we see it; we've heard these sorts of predictions - and gone through a seemingly never-ending stream of failed timelines - many times before.

In statements following SpaceX's announcement to send a private passenger to the moon, Branson also pointed to the growing interest in and demand for commercial spaceflight, though he didn't specifically cite the SpaceX news.

"If I have a room full of 10 people, eight out of 10 would love to go to space if they could afford it", Sir Richard told CNBC.

To reach the Karman line, a spaceship has to cruise at an altitude of 100 kilometers above sea level.

But delays and a fatal crash in 2014 prevented Sir Richard's original ambitions.
