Trump threatens Saudi Arabia over journalist”

Khashoggi, who was a USA resident, wrote columns for The Washington Post that were critical of Saudi Arabia.

Turkish authorities say a team of Saudis killed Khashoggi, and USA intelligence intercepts show Saudi officials discussing an operation to lure Khashoggi - a Saudi citizen who had been living in the United States - back to Saudi Arabia from his home in Virginia and detain him.

Turkish officials have said they believe Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate and lurid claims have been leaked to media that he was tortured and even dismembered.

What did Mr Guterres say?

United Kingdom foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt told Saudi Arabia Britain wants urgent answers over the reporter's disappearance. "And you know what, there are other ways of punishing", Trump said.

A spokesperson for the conference told Reuters that they still plan to go ahead with the event despite the disappointing news that some speakers and partners had pulled out.

Macron said "I'm waiting for the truth and complete clarity to be made" since the matter is "very serious".

As a contributor to The Washington Post, Khashoggi has written extensively about Saudi Arabia, including criticism of its war in Yemen, its recent diplomatic spat with Canada and its arrest of women's rights activists after the lifting of a ban on women driving.

Mr Guterres said that once there was a "clear answer" about what had happened, governments should respond "in the appropriate way" about whether to attend. Russian Federation wanted it, China wanted it, we wanted it.

Financial Times editor Lionel Barber announced the newspaper would be pulling out of its partnership in a high-profile economic conference in Riyadh, while Sir Richard Branson has frozen several business links with the Gulf state.

Authorities in Riyadh deny attacking Khashoggi and say, without providing proof, that he walked out of the consulate.

However, the International Monetary Fund chief Christine Lagarde said she would still be attending but will be "very attentive" to any new information about the missing journalist. "We want to find out what happened".

What do Turkey's recordings reveal?

The evidence, which was described to the source by a Western intelligence agency, showed there had been an assault and a struggle inside the consulate.

Asked whether he had reviewed the audio or video recordings, Trump said he has not.

She said Saturday marked the 60th birthday of Khashoggi and she had previously planned "a surprise party" in Istanbul by the Bosphorus.

"You can hear his voice and the voices of men speaking Arabic".

The Saudi delegation was in Turkey and due to have talks this weekend in Ankara and take part in a working group on the disappearance, official Turkish media said. However, the report could not be independently verified by Euronews.

Cengiz said Khashoggi was not nervous when he entered the consulate to obtain paperwork required for their marriage.

Many experts presume Khashoggi has been murdered.

CNN could not independently verify the Sabah report and was seeking comment from both Saudi and Turkish officials.
