Boko Haram executes detained aid worker, Hauwa Leman

Boko Haram executes detained aid worker, Hauwa Leman”

The executed aid worker, was forced to kneel down, with her hands tied inside a white hijab which has a crest symbol, and then shot at a close range.

"Today I spoke with Mohammed Liman, father of Hauwa, the ICRC midwife killed by Boko Haram". After the latest deadline from the kidnappers passed, the ICRC has heard reports of the execution but was unable to confirm them.

TheCable had reported how Leman was killed on Monday.

"Based on our doctrines, it is now lawful for us to do whatever we want to do with them", the group further said.

Leah's mother, Mrs. Rebecca Sharibu, had recently made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to ensure her daughter's release.

Three female health workers were kidnapped during a Boko Haram raid in Borno state, Nigeria, on 1 March that killed three other aid workers and eight Nigerian soldiers.

He described the killing as dastardly, inhuman and ungodly, saying nothing can justify the shedding of the blood of innocent people.

"It is very unfortunate that it has come to this", Mr Mohammed said on Monday night when the news of the killing hit the airwaves.

"The Federal Government did everything any responsible government should do to save the aid worker", he said. In all the negotiations, we acted in the best interest of the women and the country as a whole.

"Saifura and Hauwa were killed because they are considered as Murtads (apostates) by the group because they were once Muslims that have abandoned their Islam, the moment they chose to work with the Red Cross, and for us, there is no difference between Red Cross and UNICEF", the group added.

We issue an urgent plea for their lives.

Nigeria's military and government have repeatedly said they are on the point of defeating Boko Haram and its various factions.

"Nevertheless, we remain committed to continue responding to the tremendous humanitarian needs in what remains one of the largest humanitarian crises of our time in Africa, while doing everything possible to ensure the safety of our teams". A midwife working with us in northern Nigeria.

In a statement released Sunday, the ICRC begged the Nigerian government for help and the militants for mercy.

Boko Haram also referred to schoolgirl Leah Sharibu, 15, in its threat. "Speed and urgency are critical", it wrote. "A deadline that could result in the killing of another healthcare worker is less than 24 hours away". Liman and Loksha were kidnapped, as was another aid worker, Sifura Khorsa.

Nigerians meanwhile have been reacting to the sad news.

Boko Haram has used kidnapping as a weapon of war during the conflict, abducting thousands of women and girls, and forcing young men and boys to fight in their ranks.
