Get shot: Flu season approaching

Get shot: Flu season approaching”

The CDC is in its second week of its reporting on the 2018-2019 flu season, and the latest report covers activity for the week ending Oct 13.

Influenza is a seasonal contagious respiratory illness, which can be caused by influenza A or B viruses.

Shahab said more and more pharmacies have been offering the flu vaccine every year, with 340 offering it out of 380 in the province.

A spokeswoman for NHS Forth Valley said: "GP Practices in Forth Valley received an initial supply of the flu vaccine for over 75s at the beginning of October, and a second delivery is expected early next week".

The Thomas Jefferson Health District urges everyone six months and older to get a flu vaccine every year. It also was unusually intense, with high levels of illness reported in almost every state for weeks on end. You should get a flu shot that is not only for your own health, but for the health of others.

In addition to getting the flu vaccine, everyday preventive actions like staying away from sick people, stay home from work or school if you are sick, covering your cough, and washing your hands with soap and water can reduce the spread of germs.

Fact: The flu virus changes each year, so flu vaccines change to keep pace. Dr. Manning works in the Temple's Infectious Diseases Department, "Now is the flawless time to get your flu shot", she says.

'Vaccines are the most tested thing that we as physicians prescribe, because they are being administered to millions of people so there is no room for error, ' Dr Jacobson told DailyMail.com.

The vaccine, which contains an inactivated virus, is recommended by the CDC for all Americans, particularly the most vulnerable, to lower their risk of infection or lessen the intensity of the virus if they do catch it. The CDC reports that during the 2017-2018 flu season, almost half of those who chose to vaccinate against the flu were able to avoid it. "Your body is creating an immune response to the vaccine", she says.

A 20 percent efficacy means that among those who've been vaccinated, 20 percent fewer will get the flu compared to those who are unvaccinated.

The flu vaccine is free of cost and persons in the above-mentioned groups are advised to visit their nearest health center to be vaccinated. Doctors say that's not true.

But the flu shot does not contain live viruses, and it can not make you sick, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains. There are many other non-flu illnesses that can be contracted.
