Body of Khashoggi dismembered after being killed: Istanbul prosecutor

Body of Khashoggi dismembered after being killed: Istanbul prosecutor”

His body was then dismembered and destroyed - "again, in line with advance plans", it added.

A statement from chief Istanbul prosecutor Irfan Fidan's office also said that discussions with al-Mojeb have yielded no "concrete results" despite "good-willed efforts" by Turkey to uncover the truth.

On Saturday, Saudi Arabia said it would be in charge of the investigation and declined Ankara's request for 18 suspects to be extradited to Turkey.

The killing of Khashoggi, a former Saudi court insider, has also focused worldwide attention on the policies of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman.

Khashoggi, a onetime Saudi insider and US resident who lived in self-imposed exile for nearly a year before his death, had written critically of the crown prince in columns for The Washington Post.

His comments came a day after Istanbul's chief prosecutor announced that Khashoggi was strangled immediately after entering the consulate on October 2 and his body was dismembered and removed.

The Government of Turkey officially said today that Saudi agents strangled Khashoggi as soon as he walked into Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul.

Reportedly, prosecutor further said that Khashoggi's body "cut into pieces" after the murder.

The kingdom has since admitted he was murdered at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, blaming a "rogue operation".

The statement follows weeks of media reports about the murder at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October.

U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis has said the killing undermines regional stability and has urged Saudi Arabia to conduct a full and complete investigation.

Fidan's comments came as Saudi Attorney General Saud al-Mojeb, who has been in Istanbul for three days in connection with the investigation, was due to depart Turkey.

Meanwhile, Khashoggi's fiancée has called on US President Donald Trump and other leaders to ensure that his death in Istanbul is not covered up.

In her strongest public comments yet on the subject, she said worldwide experts should have complete access to evidence and witnesses. The Turkish authorities had released a video evidence of him entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

The senators say in the letter Tuesday that the Post reported that USA intelligence intercepted Saudi communications discussing a plan to capture the columnist.

After many conflicting accounts, Riyadh eventually said the journalist was killed in a botched interrogation and that the royal family was not involved.
