Subaru and Toyota Recall Over 400,000 Vehicles for Faulty Valve Springs”

Toyota Motor Corp. and Subaru Corp. will recall more than 400,000 cars globally to fix a faulty engine part that could cause stalling while driving.

Toyota told Consumer Reports in an email that engine valve springs may fracture, which may cause an abnormal noise or engine malfunction in the affected cars.

Toyota said its vehicles account for around 80,000 of the total. In the US, the carmaker is recalling about 25,000 Scion FR-S vehicles manufactured between March 2012 and July 2013.

The models comprising this considerable recall include Subaru's Forester sport-utility vehicle, Impreza, and BRZ sports auto.

The affected vehicles included 101,153 cars of four models including the Impreza, produced domestically between January 2012 and September 2013, as well as 310,000 units overseas.

The repairs are likely to be costly with Subaru picking up the tab.

Individuals believed to be impacted by these recalls should begin receiving additional information in the mail starting in December.

An NBC report listed the Subaru Impreza, Subaru Crosstrek, the Subaru BRZ, and the Scion FR-S.

The recalled Subaru vehicles were made between January 2012 and September 2013.

Subaru has not said how many cars are being recalled in Canada or the U.S., but in Japan, the number is a staggering 101,000. The company estimates that about 0.1 percent of the recalled models will experience the problem.
