Dozens Of Yemeni Rebels Killed In Red Sea Port City - Medics”

Since then, a Saudi-led coalition supporting the government has blockaded the rebel-held north and waged a devastating air campaign.

Saudi-led forces conduct mass strikes on Yemeni capital & beyond, despite United States "calls for ceasefire" The Saudi-led coalition has carried out a series of airstrikes against "legitimate military targets" in Sanaa and elsewhere across Yemen, several days after senior U.S. officials somewhat hypocritically called for a ceasefire.

Geert Cappelaere also told The Associated Press in an interview from Yemen that a USA call for a cease-fire is imperative to end the "brutal war".

A spokesman for the coalition said its forces attacked the worldwide airport in the capital, Sanaa, and a nearby air base operated by the rebels, known as Houthis.

Pressure has been mounting on the United Kingdom and USA in recent weeks to take a stronger stance on their close relationships with Saudi Arabia, with the two powers continuing to sell weapons to the regime used to bomb Yemen.

Mashat said that the department would attempt to control tribes, and placing tribal sheikhs loyal to the Houthis as heads of the department so they can mobilize their followers to fight on Houthi fronts.

Residents in the southern of Hodeidah told The National that clashes have been ongoing since the early morning between the Houthi militia and Al Amaliakh brigades along the road leading to the university and the airport ring road.

In particular fighting has brokenout in regions surrounding the largest hospital in the port city of Hodeidah, which has made it hard to access those most in need, including children. A Saudi-led coalition allied with the government has been fighting the Houthis since 2015.

The sources in Hodeidah said fighting was heard in areas near the airport and the university, and Apache helicopters were spotted in the sky.

Geert Cappelaere, Middle East director for the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF), described "heart-breaking" scenes of emaciated children in hospitals in the main port city of Hodeidah and the capital Sanaa, both held by Houthi insurgents.

The Saudi-led coalition backing the exiled government accuses the Houthis of acting as Iran's proxy.

According to the World Health Organization, almost 10,000 people have since been killed.

Some rights groups estimate the toll could be five times higher.
