Boeing issues advice on sensors after Indonesia crash

Boeing issues advice on sensors after Indonesia crash”

An Indonesian National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) official carries debris from the crashed Lion Air flight JT610 at Tanjung Priok port in Jakarta, November 4, 2018.

The doomed jet was a Boeing 737-Max 8, one of the world's newest and most advanced commercial passenger planes, and there is still no answer as to what caused the crash.

At one point, families demanded that Lion Air's founder, Rusdi Kirana, who attended the meeting, stand up.

The search operation is also looking to retrieve a second black box, which contains the voice cockpit recordings from the cockpit.

Data from the black box of the Lion Air 737 Max that fell into the sea with 189 people onboard has confirmed there was an issue with the plane's airspeed indicator.

In order to dispel rumors, "we want to clarify that in the black box there were four flights that experienced problems with the airspeed indicator", agency head Soerjanto Tjahjono said.

The Lion Air crash involved a brand new Boeing Max 8 jet, which was cleared to fly despite days of inaccurate speed readings. The finding is the first technical problem revealed as part of the investigation into why the plane crashed.

"We don't know yet where the problem lies, what fix has been done, what their reference books are, what components have been removed". The year before, the U.S. Air Force said moisture in sensors caused the 2008 crash of a B-2 stealth bomber on Guam; both pilots ejected safely.

Cox said that once investigators have all the data, they will work backward to determine if there was a problem with one of the plane's systems or if pilot decisions put the plane in peril.

"Lion Air said the problem was fixed, is it true the problem was cleared?" asked Bambang Sukandar, who said his son was on the flight. The budget airline has frequently received complaints over safety issues, poor service and unreliable scheduling.

"We will ... conduct a special audit of the crews' qualifications and staff communication", transportation minister Budi Karya Sumadi told reporters Monday as he announced the probe into Lion's operations.

"This is a preventative measure (the accident) is a very expensive lesson for us".

At the meeting with family members, Tjahjono had said that information downloaded from the jet's flight data recorder was consistent with reports that the plane's speed and altitude were erratic after takeoff on its final flight.

Police medical experts have received almost 140 body bags of human remains and have identified 14 victims.

Kirana, who is also Indonesia's ambassador to Malaysia, faced the angry audience, with his head slightly bowed and pressed his palms together without saying a word.

"We are not ideal human beings", he said, sobbing. "We are trying the best we can with all we have. we are not giving up".

Indonesia's government ordered an inspection of all the country's Boeing 737 Max planes following the crash.

All were found to be airworthy although two required repairs for "minor" problems.
