Google Chrome 71 Will Block Abusive Ads, Among Other New Features

Google Chrome 71 Will Block Abusive Ads, Among Other New Features”

Once Google updates Chrome to version 71, the world's most popular browser will begin blocking every abusive ad on a website that's filled with them. Google launched tools to deal with many of those issues in Chrome past year, however, the company says the tools didn't go far enough.

"In fact, more than half of these abusive experiences are not blocked by our current set of protections, and almost all involve harmful or misleading ads", he added.

Google's Chrome blog has set a December 2018 deadline for publishers to take down abusive experiences. Before ads are removed, site owners will be notified in Google Search Console if there are abusive ad experiences on their site.

Abusive ads, of course, come in many forms.

Following its own internal investigations into abusive web practices, Google claims to have identified the tactics used.

Chrome users may disable the browser's ad-blocking component by adding sites to the list of allowed sites or by allowing ads.

As for Google, which makes somewhere near to $100bn in ad sales per year, it's not expecting to see a big drop in revenue itself, as it's already policing the sort of adverts it serves in line with its new guidelines. If they do that within 30 days, Google will not remove all ads on the site. However, while these protocols protect users against misleading behavior on websites, they didn't tackle the same kind of behavior in ads, pop-up or otherwise. As a reasonable explainer, Google will distribute an Abusive Experience Report to let site proprietors check whether any injurious encounters are there on their site, and should be adjusted or evacuated.

These bad ads, said Sekhar dupe users into clicking on them by masquerading as system warning dialog boxes or non-responsive close buttons. Abusive ads will also create fake system notifications luring the user into downloading viruses.

While Chrome 71 will automatically block ads on abusive sites, users will ultimately be able to decide if Chrome should block ads or not.

Now You: Have you experienced abusive advertisement or other content in the past?
