Tape Doesn't Implicate Prince MBS, NSA Bolton Says

Tape Doesn't Implicate Prince MBS, NSA Bolton Says”

"We are in discussions with our like-minded allies as to the next steps with regard to Saudi Arabia", Trudeau said. Which is very handy indeed.

National Security Advisor John Bolton said Tuesday that an audio recording that Turkish officials say links Saudi Arabian operatives to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi didn't appear to implicate Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, according to a report.

After pretending Khashoggi's murder was a non-issue for weeks, on October 20 the government was forced to ditch Australia's diplomatic representation at the Saudis' Future Investment Initiative after regime officials admitted Khashoggi had been "killed" in the Istanbul embassy in a "fistfight" - one of many lies from the Saudis, who had initially claimed Khashoggi left the embassy safely.

He ran social media for Prince Mohammed, masterminded the arrest of hundreds of Saudi Arabia's elite late past year in a campaign Riyadh said aimed at rooting out corruption, and took a harsh line against neighbouring Qatar when Saudi Arabia imposed an economic boycott of the Gulf state in June 2017.

Speaking to journalists on board his plane while returning from World War I commemorations in Paris, Recep Tayyip Erdogan also reportedly said audio recordings of the killing that Turkey shared with officials from Saudi Arabia and other nations were so "atrocious" that a Saudi intelligence official speculated that the killer may have been on heroin.

The 59-year-old Saudi dissident was last seen entering the consulate on October 2 to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage.

Erdogan said it was clear the murder was planned and that the order came from the top level of Saudi authorities but that he could not think such a thing of King Salman, for whom he has "limitless respect".

U.S. officials have heard a recording of the call in which a "boss" is referred to, one person familiar with the matter said.

A recording of Jamal Khashoggi's murder has led some to believe the killing was ordered by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The phone call was in Arabic and reported translations have Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, a security officer with connections to Crown Prince MBS - and one of 15 Saudis in Istanbul, Turkey, during Khashoggi's murder - saying the phrases "tell your boss" and "the deed is done", the Times reported.

Under mounting pressure, Saudi Arabia has changed its narrative about Khashoggi's killing.

"No Saudi prince has ever done this ever in its history", Baer said. We are waiting patiently, ' Erdogan said, adding that the perpetrators of the killing were among 18 suspects detained in Saudi Arabia.

"The first step in that process - not the only step but the first step in that process is to make sure there is proper accountability for the people who were responsible, both the people who committed the act but also the people who gave the orders for the act".

More recently, a government source said Qahtani featured prominently in the recordings. Qahtani has wielded that influence over the last three years, with his authority growing alongside that of the young prince.

Turkey's pro-government newspaper Sabah reported on Tuesday that the luggage of the Saudi team that was sent to Istanbul at the time of Khashoggi's killing contained syringes, large scissors, staple guns, walkie-talkies, electric shock devices and a signal jammer. They denied the royal family's involvement in the incident and said that the killing of the Washington Post columnist was a "rogue operation".
