AWS offers devs tiny autonomous vehicles for machine learning”

(AWS), an Amazon.com company (NASDAQ: AMZN), announced that National Australia Bank (NAB) has selected AWS as a long term strategic cloud provider, with a goal of migrating more than 300 applications, including some core banking systems, to AWS by the end of 2019.

AWS said it will help developers get rolling with machine learning with AWS DeepRacer, a new 1/18th scale autonomous model race auto for developers, driven by reinforcement learning. In turn, patients can use the service to help manage different aspects of their treatment, including scheduling healthcare visits and prescription medicines or determining insurance eligibility.

AWS presaged the launch of the new service earlier this month when it announced that its Amazon Comprehend, along with Amazon Transcribe and Amazon Translate, were HIPAA eligible services.

The new SageMaker updates include SageMaker RL, which was created to make it easier for developers to build, train and deploy machine learning tools, including low cost, automatic data labeling and reinforcement learning (RL).

AWS is attempting to disrupt the current model with a smoother experience for customers, joining its biggest cloud competitors.

AWS Outposts is a continuation of Amazon's Virtual Private Cloud that will help boost the hybrid cloud experience for customers, allowing developers to write and run applications across infrastructures more easily. Users can train reinforcement learning models in an online simulator and then test-drive them on DeepRacer.

Amazon reached a new milestone on Wednesday when it unveiled DeepRacer, a self-driving race vehicle that runs on artificial intelligence (AI), and launched a racing league that would pit the owners of the auto against each other. SageMaker RL is now generally available. The service learns in real time from a sample of labels assigned by humans and automatically applies labels to much of the remaining data.

Companies will also be able to run other software with native AWS Outposts.

Writing in its bog, AWS said businesses with a large number of satellites typically build and operate their own ground stations at a cost of a million dollars or more for each one. "So we don't really see anything changing, we still provide an opportunity for customers to decide where they want to put their data".

Amazon Translate is a neural machine translation service that provides fast and reliable language translation, which could enable an organization to translate documents and other text as well as communication with patients in their preferred language. Microsoft's Azure Stack allows customers to extend some cloud capabilities into on-prem data centers.

AWS Outposts solves these challenges by delivering racks of AWS compute and storage, with the ability to run services like Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) on this AWS-designed infrastructure. This is just the beginning of our journey, and we're eager to innovate using AWS in ways that were not possible with our on-premises infrastructure.

Amazon plans to use reinforcement learning for more serious tasks in the future.

AWS Outposts initially will come in two flavors.
