Khashoggi murder: Central Intelligence Agency chief Haspel 'to brief Congress'”

Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul two months ago.

She was absent from last week's briefing by the secretaries of state and defence, angering some in Congress. The CIA Director is coming to the US Senate and only briefing a select few members of the Senate.

Khashoggi, a Washington Post columnist and American resident, was murdered and dismembered minutes after he entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey on October 2 - allegedly on orders from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Republican Senator Bob Corker said he has zero doubt in his mind that Prince Mohammed ordered and monitored the killing of Khashoggi.

Sen. Bob Corker says a jury would find the Saudi crown prince 'in about 30 minutes.'

After Tuesday's Haspel briefing, Republican senator Lindsey Graham said: "There's not a smoking gun, there's a smoking saw".

Saudi officials have repeatedly denied that the crown prince had any knowledge of Khashoggi's murder or its subsequent cover-up. Trump has touted Saudi arms deals worth billions of dollars to the USA and recently thanked Saudi Arabia for plunging oil prices. Haspel was conspicuously absent from last week's briefing on the matter to the entire Senate, and today, Paul said that intelligence officials withholding information from Congress is "the very definition of the deep state". Was there a phone conversation between the crown prince and the killers?

The New York Times, the Journal and the Washington Post and have all reported that the Central Intelligence Agency has evidence Prince Mohammed (below) exchanged 11 messages with his close aide Saud al-Qahtani, who allegedly oversaw the murder, just before and after it took place.

In August 2017, MBS also told associates that if his efforts to persuade Khashoggi to return to Saudi Arabia were unsuccessful, "we could possibly lure him outside Saudi Arabia and make arrangements", according to the CIA's assessment, as reported by the WSJ. Speaker Paul Ryan last week said the Yemen resolution "isn't the way to go".
