Another 5.1 Million Pounds Of Beef Recalled Due To Salmonella”

The raw, non-intact beef items, including ground beef, were packaged on various dates from July 26, 2018 to September 7, 2018.

JBS Tolleson, Inc. recalled over 12 million pounds of raw beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella Newport Tuesday.

This puts the total recall at more than 12 million lbs. from the Arizona company.

All product supplied from JBS packaging facility in Tolleson, AZ.

Health officials say their investigation identified additional products with the USDA inspection number "EST".

Health officials are concerned that consumers may have the recalled beef stored in their freezers.

The USDA says after the initial recall in October, investigators found 246 other confirmed illnesses from 26 states in the date range given above.

These items were shipped to retail locations and institutions nationwide.

Almost 250 people in 26 states have fallen ill, the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service says. 267 ground beef products that were not part of the October 4 recall, according to FSIS. If the product was included in the recall, consumers should throw the meat away or return it to the establishment where they purchased it. The illness can stretch from four to seven days. In some persons, however, the diarrhea may be so severe that the patient needs to be hospitalized.

The USDA is also reminding consumers to safely prepare raw beef and make sure it is properly cooked.

Older adults, children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients, are more likely to develop a severe illness and serious, sometimes life-threatening conditions.

Eating food contaminated with salmonella can lead to diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever.

The full list of recalled products is available online. Not all who eat infected meat will get sick, but they can pass the infection on to others.
