Mitch Marsh Has Been Dropped For The First Test

Mitch Marsh Has Been Dropped For The First Test”

"Going forward we've got full faith in him being a Test allrounder and as this series wears on and we get to places where the wicket might be a bit flatter, conditions might be a little warmer and our bowlers a bit exhausted then the allrounder position becomes important".

Former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting gave his take on how the Aussies can limit Kohli's impact during the Test series.

Now, with the home team losing its two premier batsmen in Smith and Warner, India faces its best chance yet of a first series win on Australian turf. But if they haven't got runs on the board, and the confidence is down, the likes of Kohli and Pujara and Rahane will cash in. "And I think it's important that we get those long partnerships together, in Australia that will really help us a lot".

With India refusing to play a day-night Test, the match will be played in the heat of the day, with hot northerly winds expected to bake Adelaide over the next two days.

"Mitch Marsh probably hadn't been as consistent as he would like or we would like", captain Tim Paine said.

Peter Handscomb was given the nod ahead of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, following his superb knocks at Gabba last week and a century in Victoria's match before.

Rohit played the last of his 25 Tests against South Africa in January but has experience in Australian conditions, having toured with the side in 2014-15. "It is going to be no different for them; they are going to see at times if they can attack Nathan and get on top of him and we're going to have bowl our quicks a bit more than we would like so it is going to be a real chess match in that regard".

Specialist batsman Rohit Sharma and all-rounder Hanuma Vihari will vie for the No. 6 spot in the series-opening Test against Australia in Adelaide starting Thursday.

"This is a team sport. and it is the job of each and every bat to contribute for the team".

"There's no doubt Australia is concerned about making enough runs, because that's going to be their problem". Yes, they (will) miss Steve Smith and David Warner but I don't think they are vulnerable.
