Teacher’s Pet subject Chris Dawson arrested over murder of Lyn Dawson

Teacher’s Pet subject Chris Dawson arrested over murder of Lyn Dawson”

Chris Dawson will be extradited to NSW over the suspected murder of his wife, Lynette, who disappeared from their Sydney home almost 37 years ago.

Journalist Hedley Thomas hosted the true-crime podcast "The Teacher's Pet", which investigated the disappearance of Lynette Dawson, an Australian woman who went missing in 1982.

Lyn Dawson was 33 years old when she vanished from her home in Sydney's northern beaches in January 1982, leaving behind two daughters.

The former Newtown Jets rugby league player, who is at the centre of the popular Teacher's Pet podcast, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court today with his head bowed, wearing a t-shirt, shorts and bare feet.

Queensland Police said Mr Dawson's extradition to NSW was unlikely to take place on Wednesday because of continuing negotiations with the commercial airlines over security arrangements.

Dawson was hoped to be extradited to NSW on Wednesday, however police were unable to organise air transport for him out of Queensland.

"What is important to me was justice for Lynette Dawson and her family, and today is an important step forward in that", he added.

Sydney couple Chris Dawson and Lyn Dawson (nee Simms) married in 1970 when they were both 21 years old.

His family said they were "disappointed" at the decision of the DPP.

Two separate inquests have recommended for murder charges to be laid against a "known person".

"That dig didn't provide any additional information, unfortunately, and, look, from our perspective we would have dearly loved to have found the body of Lynette Dawson not just for the brief of evidence but for her family", Fuller said.

Chris Dawson has been arrested over the 1982 death of his wife, Lyn.

"A team of dedicated detectives has been investigating this case over the past three years", he said in a statement.

"Statements from witnesses helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together".

"We have sold homicide before without identifying the body", he continued.

Mr Fuller on Wednesday declared "we certainly won't give up on that search" for Mrs Dawson's remains.

In 2015, New South Wales Police's Strike Force Striven was established to reinvestigate the case.

"We have to also ensure Chris gets due process".

Cook said the two additional witnesses interviewed as a result of the podcast were "not crucial, but they are corroborative".

'We've always been determined to find the truth and that's the reason why we've fought to keep Lyn's name alive, ' he told Nine News.

But NSW Detective Superintendent Scott Cook insists investigators are confident in the strength of their case.
