Thousands Sign Petition Against Ted Baker CEO For Harassment

Thousands Sign Petition Against Ted Baker CEO For Harassment”

One petitioner described an afternoon at the office in which Kelvin "singled out employees and [made] them slow dance with him", adding that workers "escaped the humiliation by hiding in the bathrooms/kitchens which were much safer places than our own desks".

The news comes just days before Ted Baker is set to release its third quarter figures on Thursday 6 December.

The current and former staff used campaigning platform Organise to complain about Mr Kelvin's alleged behaviour, including kissing ears, unwanted hugs and shoulder massages. The petition claims that attempts to resolve the issue with the company's human resources department have unsuccessful stating, "Harassment at Ted Baker is well documented but wilfully ignored by those in charge", the petition says.

Kelvin, who keeps a low profile and refuses to have his face photographed, is ranked at number 244 on the 2018 Sunday Times Rich List.

"It's very uncomfortable and unnecessary, a simple handshake can be okay. Now, over 100 anonymised reports of harassment are sat with Ted Baker's board", Organise said in a blog post about the matter.

Ted Baker has always placed great importance on the company's culture and owes everything to the commitment of our people.

The company said that it was now "in dialogue" with Organise in order to "understand the details and nature of the claims".

The shares were down more than 12% in Monday trading after the claims - which the company said were "entirely at odds" with the values of the business and Mr Kelvin - surfaced over the weekend. It assured employees that there were a "wide range of reporting options for any issues that they might encounter, including a completely confidential and anonymous, 24/7 helpline".

The quintessentially British brand opened its first store in Glasgow in 1988 and now has 544 outlets worldwide, which, according to its website, sell a "global lifestyle brand offering menswear, womenswear, accessories and everything in between".
