Apple Will Begin Producing Top-End iPhones In India This 2019”

Foxconn will have to invest the equivalent of US$356 million to expand its facility which now makes phones for Xiaomi Corp.

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIPR) is the organization that did the study and according to it, the iPhone XR sold as much as 32% of all iPhones sold in the U.S. in a particular period in October 2018, just about a month after the release of the device. This second manufacturing unit outside of China by Apple is also considered as a smart move to help the Cupertino tech giant in a trade war between the United States and China, which reduces the impact on Apple, the report suggests.

As per Counterpoint, Apple has emphasised on retailing lower-end phones in the Indian market as the fact that more than half of its sale volume is driven by models older than iPhone 8. The report also highlighted that this investment would be creating approximately 25,000 employment opportunities.

There's a possibility for Apple to restart iPhone X production. iPhone X launched alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus previous year, and it signified the most radical change in the history of iPhone, with an entirely new design and a sophisticated facial recognition technology called Face ID, among other features. A third source confirmed that Hon Hai plans to assemble iPhones in India. It still remains to be seen whether less expensive iPhone X models will be the tipping point, however, by building the phones in India, Apple is at least doing everything it can to set itself up to try.

Full details of Apple's deal with Foxconn are not yet clear and could change.

Shares in Apple's Asian suppliers and assemblers slid in November after several component makers forecast weaker-than-expected sales, leading some market watchers to call the peak for iPhones in several key markets.

It is not known if any of the iPhone assembly is being moved from existing Foxconn factories in China and elsewhere. As well as India, reports suggest the world's biggest electronics contract manufacturer is considering setting up manufacturing in Vietnam. Foxconn is now looking into opening a production base in preparation for the impacts of the trade war.

It will be the first time Foxconn has assembled Apple products in the country. Foxconn will be making high-end devices in the flagship Apple series, the report added.
