The Essential Phone Gets Discontinued As Focus Shifts To 'Next Mobile Product'

The Essential Phone Gets Discontinued As Focus Shifts To 'Next Mobile Product'”

Android co-creator Andy Rubin's Essential Phone has become unavailable and the company has said it won't replenish the stocks, thus, effectively discontinuing the smartphone. For now, it's still available on online retailers like Amazon (going for $430), but that's unlikely to last long.

Now, what exactly this "next mobile product" is remains uncertain and the fact that it's not explicitly a phone makes us skeptical that a PH-2 is coming.

Almost two years later the Essential phone still has big names like Samsung beat in certain areas.

As for current Essential Phone owners, it's encouraging to hear that software updates will remain speedy. On Essential's website and other stores that typically sell the Essential Phone, the device was showing up as "sold out". The phone is now out of stock and the company has confirmed it won't be making any more of the handsets. While it's spotted earlier on by Droid Life that the phones are out of stock, Essential will not be making any more of the Phones.

Essential PH-1 was one of the first smartphones to adopt the waterdrop style notched display to the market initially introduced at a price of $699 (approximately Rs 49,000). An Essential spokeswoman wouldn't directly confirm to me that its "next mobile product" is a phone, but that's what "mobile product" generally means.

Despite all of the inventory drying up, though, Essential does appear to be continuing support for existing devices, and they're still selling some of the accessories that you may not even want.
