Windows 10 finally beats Windows 7

Windows 10 finally beats Windows 7”

This follows Windows 10 gaining share throughout 2018, starting the year on 34.29% - while Windows 7 started on 42.39%.

The next cumulative updates for Windows 10 are projected to go live on January 8 as part of this month's Patch Tuesday cycle, and naturally, version 1809 will be one of those getting patches.

Figures from Netmarketshare show that, as we suspected, Windows 10 ended the year ahead of Windows 10 with a desktop/laptop market share of 39.22 per cent (+1.08) against Windows 7 with 36.90 (-1.99). According to WCCFTech, there are still "multiple Windows 10 October 2018 Update upgrade blocks that are in place".

With just over one year left before Microsoft ends extended support for Windows 7, expect to see Windows 10 continue to increase its market share.

According to complaints in the Microsoft forums, after installing the October 2018 Update users were finding that it could break FLAC support in Windows 10. Microsoft also announced it will be rolling out updates to Windows 10 in the future instead of launching new software iterations. The company predicted Windows 10 will run on a billion devices by 2018.

But by the middle of previous year Windows 10 had reached over 700 million devices, which is still not bad. Windows 7 64-bit is said to have dropped 3.53 percent, with other OS's adjusting upwards and downwards slightly. Therefore, if you need to upgrade before the patch is released, please confirm that you can surely sign in with a user with administrative privileges other than the built-in administrator, before you upgrade, says the blog post on TechNet Japan. Then, when Windows 8 underwhelmed, millions opted to stick with Windows 7 rather than upgrade.
