'Bright fireball' meteor shower visible from Singapore on Friday morning”

The UK is about to be treated to a dazzling celestial display as up to 100 shooting stars scorch through the sky every hour.

The Quadrantids may not be the most famous meteor shower, but it can be one of the most scenic and intense. The eclipse will be visible to people across most of Asia on January 6.

Nasa said the Quadrantids are "one of the best annual meteor showers".

This Quadrantid meteor made an appearance over New Mexico in 2013.

The Quadrantids, which has been ongoing since the last couple days of December, has a reputation for being hard to observe, though Thursday night is your best chance. During its peak in early January, anywhere from 60 to as many as 200 Quadrantid meteors can be seen per hour in ideal conditions. This is due to the fact that fireballs originate from larger particles of material'. The "best" time will be late in the evening.

Stargazers in urban areas may have more luck spotting meteors if they travel to a place with a wide view of the sky and less light pollution, NASA explains.

They will be visible across the northern hemisphere, including in the UK.

"It is going to be a good year because the moon is going to be such a small slice that the skies will be dark", said Ron Nyberg of the High Desert Astronomy Club.

"The name Quadrantids comes from the constellation Quadrans Muralis (Mural Quadrant), created by the French astronomer Jerome Lalande in 1795", wrote Bruce McClure on EarthSky.

You'll want to face northeast.

Be sure to bundle up if you're trying to view the shower, as temperatures are expected to be in the mid-twenties overnight Thursday. And give your eyes about 20 to 30 minutes to adjust to the darkness - without looking at your phone - so meteors are easier to spot.
