Nordic diet makes its way on best diets for 2019 list”

It is followed by the DASH Diet, which tied the with Mediterranean diet for the top spot past year.

The diet could also help prevent cognitive diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's as well as breast cancer. The term was coined by registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner in her book "The Flexitarian Diet: The Mostly Vegetarian Way to Lose Weight, Be Healthier, Prevent Disease and Add Years to Your Life". The campaign reflects WW's strategic evolution to build on its leading position in weight management, helping people to achieve their weight loss goals, while also delivering a more holistic platform for health and wellness, including innovations around nutrition, activity, mindset, inspiration and community.

The U.S. News & World Report panel of health experts includes nutritionists, physicians and others specializing in diabetes, heart health, human behavior and weight loss.

Some of the trendiest diets, like ketogenic and Whole30, again fell to the bottom of the overall diet rankings.

Rich in low-starch vegetables, fruit, healthy fats (mostly from olives and olive oil), nuts, seeds, whole grains, legumes, and fish, the Mediterranean diet eschews simple sugars and refined starches and is low in red meat.

The DASH diet, made up of low-sodium and healthful foods, was originally started by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) as a diet to help reduce blood pressure. It's more flexible than fully vegetarian or vegan diets.

Designed by researchers from the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, the aptly named MIND diet was developed specifically for brain health. Although created to help people lose weight, experts say its focus on healthier living makes it a smart overall diet to follow. The new program expands dietary options.

Unlike highly restrictive diets like the keto diet or the Atkins diet, the Mediterranean diet is balanced and allows people to eat a wide variety of foods in moderation.

WW offers its members support online and is well-known for its in-person group meetings.
