Rose could reclaim No.1 spot on PGA Tour

Rose could reclaim No.1 spot on PGA Tour”

Cape Town - Four-time Major champion, Rory McIlroy, explained that nearly everything about the US PGA Tour was more appealing than playing in Europe at this point in his life.

That's another change he's making in 2019 after feeling like he was always playing catch-up once his PGA Tour schedule ramped up.

"I'm not putting anyone down in Europe, but the depths of the field and everything is just that bit better over here".

Preparing for a different start to the year, Rory McIlroy discussed why he is playing the Tournament of Champions.

FILE - In this November 17, 2018 file photo, Rory McIlroy, from Northern Ireland, looks at his shot on the 1st hole during the third round of the DP World Tour Championship golf tournament in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

"It helped me learn to say, 'No, '" McIlroy said.

That gave him the minimum for Euro Tour events, not including the majors and World Golf Championship events that count for both tours, to retain his European Tour membership. I want to switch it up.

"I feel like I had a good year, but I would like to have had a little better performance in the majors; I just didn't contend", Johnson said on Wednesday at Kapalua's Plantation course on Maui.

"I feel like every time I show up to the start of the year on the PGA TOUR other guys have played almost 10 events and I'm sort of playing my first or my second one", he added.

And that is why McIlroy, who is from Northern Ireland, is unlikely to play an event in Europe on his home tour until July. "I get a buzz from that".

The four-time major victor won't play in Europe until this summer and says it makes sense to concentrate on America where there's more ranking points and money available. If I play those events, potentially I could play 11 out of 13 weeks, which is a lot of golf and it's too much for me. "I'd much rather go down the stretch against Justin Thomas or Dustin Johnson", the Northern Irishman added. For now McIlroy is permanently settled in America, and has no plans to go back home anytime soon.

European Golfer of the Year Francesco Molinari will also feature in the 34-strong field, along with Englishman Paul Casey, who will make his first appearance in the tournament since 2010.

"I've always been trying to split my time (between two tours, but) I'm sick of always showing up in Florida 100th in the FedEx Cup".

Despite that success Koepka said he checked off about "half" his goals last season, pointing out that he missed a good portion of the spring with a wrist injury and he didn't make every cut.
