Health care facility’s CEO resigns after patient in vegetative state gives birth

Health care facility’s CEO resigns after patient in vegetative state gives birth”

Phoenix police on Saturday were investigating reports of a sexual assault after a woman who has been hospitalized in a vegetative state for the past decade gave birth.

Hacienda HealthCare CEO Bill Timmons resigned on Monday, with immediate effect, and his resignation was accepted unanimously by the board of directors.

Hacienda HealthCare operates the long-term care facility for the developmentally disabled where the woman gave birth on December 29 to a baby boy, according to earlier reporting by KPHO, which also revealed that the Native American woman has been in a vegetative state for 14 years after a near-drowning.

In 2013, an investigation found that a staff member made "inappropriate, sexual statements" about four clients.

The outlet also reported that the patient has been in a vegetative state for at least a decade after almost drowning.

Parents of patients at the Phoenix health care facility say they want answers.

"And they didn't know what was wrong with her", the source said.

A Phoenix police spokesman told The Washington Post an investigation has been opened into the case. Hacienda HealthCare, which has 40 programs that serve more than 2,500 people a year in Arizona, according to its website, did not immediately respond to calls and messages seeking comment.

Hacienda spokesman David Leibowitz said the facility had recently become aware of a "deeply disturbing incident" involving one of its residents.

Orman continued: "And we will do everything in our power to ensure the safety of every single one of our patients and our employees".

Police have yet to disclose any information about suspects at the time. Hacienda was given a year to fix the "defects" in staff training and staff treatment of patients or be removed from the Medicare roster.

It happened at Hacidena Healthcare, a facility for medically fragile children, teens, and adults. In 2013, a male employee was found to have made sexually explicit remarks to patients, though no physical or sexual abuse allegations were made and the employee was sacked.

She demands 24-hour care, indicating that numerous facility's staff would have access to her room, as she is incapable of any communication or voluntary movement.
